Owner / Transmission Rebuilder
I am the owner of Faterkowski's Transmission. I was born in 1959 in Houston, Tx., and grew up there in the heights. My first job was when I was about 10 years old. A couple bought the house across the street from where I lived and he opened up a wood turning shop. I worked for him for about 4 years, until he moved. I would work a couple of hours a day after school and 8 hours or more a day in the summer. My next job was with Hi-Lo Auto Supply. There I started out as a stock boy and eventually became a counterman. I learned a lot about cars working for Hi-Lo. I would listen to the customers when they described their problems and also what parts were sold to correct them. By the time I turned 18 I built my first engine. I got all of my education from listening to people and reading books on engine rebuilding. I've always liked working with my hands and building things. I've been a perfectionist my entire life and have been criticized about it many times from people close to me. Even back at my first job at the wood turning shop, when he moved his business about 20 miles away, he still wanted me to work for him. So he offered to pick me up and bring me back home, which I did for awhile. Now as I'm working on transmissions, that perfection sure plays an important role. I'm lucky that I found out what I love to do for a living.
